Dear all,

We managed to deliver altogether 7 boxes of toys. Many thanks to the donors, volunteers and those who had supported with vehicles.

AB.com will begin a series of mini charity drives. Main focus will be children homes around Singapore. In time, a society named 'SOUL Foundation' will be set up and registered officially and it will be affiliated with this forum to work hand in hand in contributing towards the common good.

A need-to-have list will be posted and we cannot collect money as we don't have the proper infrastructure to collect cash in kind. Usually these homes have some form of needs and we just have to cater towards that.

Pls come forward, pass the food items and we will deliver them on your behalf. Photos will be posted and a food delivery order will be given as part of proof in our work.

Sincerely, we can do our part to care for the children as they represent our future. In time, through small efforts like this, they will grow to be contributors to the society especially towards the less fortunate.

Many Many thanks to all........... Smile

Good Day,

Our first ever vehicle mobilization has been overwhelming, its also high time to invest in some walkie talkies so we can do a convoy delivery.

Wasn't sure whether we would get any response but members like ABC were calling in at even midnight to provide support. This is really commendable taking into consideration that he had already helped in the food packing not long ago.

'The wave of the UNITIVE spirit has begun towards the common good and it's touching to see that we are united.'

Many thanks to all and i sincerely look forward to merry up when i am back for good..... Smile

Good Day to all members,

We had successfully completed a food project solely on our own as a forum. We raised enough to cater the needs of 2 homes and this is indeed a milestone chapter in our humble beginning.

To the 24 contributors and those present today, kudos to all as you had taken a forward step in helping mankind.

Its through such spirit, will the young know that though they are alone but there are people who still care about their existence.

Our next project is just 2 days away. Food delivery from one point to another. Though we had done once already, this is a bigger scale operation.

If you need more details, pls kindly send me an email at: [email protected]

Looking forward to hearing from all....... Have a nice day !!

Good day everyone,

This task is a daunting one. Manpower was the biggest constraint for this delivery. The work only ended near evening and the AB volunteers held out till its enough to furnish food in aid to 280 families in the coming months.

For the taxi volunteers who helped, it's F1 Day 3, taxi business is good for this type of event and still they came in support. Many thanks for turning up.

From the many pictures i had seen, only selected 5 for this compilation. Now that we have collected, transferred and delivered. Its time to get it packed for the needy families.

Our next project is coming up in Oct 2010. Its a food packing event. Let's Join hands and we will reach as many as we can in this lifetime.

Stay tune for details....... Many thanks to those who had came by with their friends as well..... Smile

Good Evening,

We had completed the food packing in quick speed again. 1 1/2 hrs is all we took to finish the deed. Weather was hot but well complimented with water and KFC whipped potato...... Smile

Seems like we are getting faster at it. We had helped packed 283 bags worth of condiments for families ranging from 1 - 9 paxs per household.

Seeing that we have numbers, we had proposed to do this project in the evenings. Understand many have to work and to do it in the morning is sometimes not easy to get away.

We will keep all informed when the confirmation comes from the association. Hope this will encourage more members to come forward.

My thanks to the guys who came forward to help. It's great to see such positive spirit.

Besides catering free condiments to needy families, the center had extended its program in provide free food for the elders in the area.

This is only feasible through a partnership program with Cheng Hong Welfare Service community...... Smile

Today serve as a milestone chapter in AB.com History.

We manage to raise funds, make purchase, ensure delivery, collect and link up with everyone and everything in one place.

The planning started as early as September. Only met up with recipients from the home, once in Oct 2010.

Tonnes of emails went to and fro from various shop outlets, with AB members and homework needed to be done before i could pass the sub tasks to Data Dunia, Naige66, OkoBoko and AutoExe for execution.

All in all everything went well and with them making contacts with the various sub agencies, everything fell in place as planned.

This has been a great deed from all and the effort in coming all the way to Pasir Ris to see through the entire process is a very good closure to the year 2010.

=====================================================================================

We managed to help 158 kids do better in their learning. Provided 155 cans of food thickener which will last a long time.

Kudos to all the contributors, you had made a difference in many children lives.

As for those who had turned up in person, my heartfelt thanks to all for helping. Without your support, this milestone project can't be accomplished.

2010 had been a very good year, we had done so many projects in a short span and now we will be heading into 2011 with 6 projects and may have an option of 1 more if we are too bored...... Smile

AB Indonesia had completed 1 food project and AB Vietnam had completed 3 fund raisers with 1 more ongoing. Their efforts are very encouraging and i am sure in time we will become a very helpful community with one intention and that is to aid another whenever we can.

Sincerely wish all will continue to support AB charity in the coming years. Thanks for reading. Below are some updates for viewing pleasure..... Enjoy !! Smile

Good Morning Everyone,

Am now writing this message while having a 3 days 2 nights holiday in Labuan, Malaysia.

It's the festive season and enjoying my stay in Grand Dorsett Labuan Hotel.

Was free in Christmas Day so decided to do a Condiments Giving project for a home which caters to Spastic Children & Adults.

The home however opens only Monday - Friday and to our dismay, office is not open on a Public Holiday.

So we took a step further, got some addresses and it leads to 3 of the school's recipients who reside in various parts of the island.

Headed straight to the Giant Supermarket and purchased the required basic condiments and also secured a 2 hr usage of vehicle support from the hotel staff.

My sincere thanks to Wan Paris (Duty Manager) & Fitri (Concierge cum driver) for allowing the usage of the vehicle.

Off we go, towards doing some good during the festivities........... Smile

=====================================================================================

Photos courtesy of Shew Narian:

These are the amount of items we bought:

Loading the condiments into the Van.

Since we could not get the condiments to the school, we sent the condiments to various recipient's homes.

Fitri supported us by driving to various locations and he is standing on the far left.

The shed behind everyone is the 1st recipient's home for many years even long before he was born.

A friend of mine wanted a close up shot with the kid. The gravel in the backdrop is a new house currently been built for this family as they qualified for a home upgrade.

The 2nd recipient is the one sitting on a green sofa chair.

He is also part of the adult program from the school.

He no longer attends the classes as moving around is a chore for him.

This picture do not show the 3rd recipient as she is off to collecting a scholarship in Kota Kinabalu.

An NGO had given an award to horn her tertiary skills. She had gone to receive it.

For these 2 boys, one of them is the younger brother of the 3rd recipient and the other boy is his friend.

The family's eldest brother had gone out for work. So they have to fend for themselves during his absence which is a daily routine.

The spirit is very strong in them though the hardship is a constant reality.

=====================================================================================

Many recipients battle hunger and shelter in a constant basis. To see or not to see is up to us.

Help as many as your ability allows and soon enough we will see betterment all around us.

This small event had touched my 3 friends as they did not know doing a simple deed as such during a holiday is possible.

For us, the journey of betterment for others has begin...... Smile

Good Evening everyone,

A real life story about why we are organizing the Balloon Sculpting activity for everyone..... Smile

I went to a children home in the outskirts of Bangkok , Thailand.

The name of the home is: PAKKRED BABIES' HOME

Intent was to contribute within my means in dry condiment supplies and spend some time with the children while i visit.

Bought what i can afford and as part of the entertainment, purchased 100 balloons and a pump.

Was waiting for their recess and the moment the first little baby came forward, i gave a balloon.

Little did i know, once the others see one balloon, all wanted one.

There i was, happily preparing these simple moments which only took at most 20 secs to create one.

Thereafter, this activity attracted more people to help and suddenly i have 3 - 4 assistants helping to fulfill the little joys.

The babies became more creative, they wanted other colors as well...... Smile

This home which i visited only caters to babies. However the compound caters to 800 children.

All of which are from needy families, orphans, ditched and found.

It is a monumental task and the school manage to survive through its ordeal.

These few pictures show the compound inside.

The next 2 pictures which was taken from PAKKRED BABIES' HOME is a good illustration of what i was trying to achieve for the Spastic Children Home in Singapore.

Good Day to all,

Its the first time AB members undertake the additional task in helping to sort food items as well.

On 240311, 5 members turned up in good time and helped complete the sorting. Many items when they arrive are in bulk state.

Example: Rice will come in 50kg per sack and it has to be broken down to smaller bags for distribution.

There are many other condiments that require sorting as donors will order in bulk and get suppliers to deliver to Wellness Community.

Only when the sorting is done then on 250311 the group in charge in packing can take over to prepare the bags according to family size ranging from 1 - 9 paxs.

On 260311, the delivery volunteers can then send the food items to the needy families.

Been able to play 2 parts of this program is a very good improvement from our 2 - 3 year involvement with Shan You.

For this effort, we had matured one notch towards the aid of others. Many thanks to all in attending.

'May we all succeed in providing the needs of others.'

Project in INDONESIA

Date: 200511 - 240511

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Project Sarikan - 210511 to 230511

The day began with the arrival at Jakarta. Immediately upon linking up with our contacts, we set off by driving to an area known as Sunter and our destination is Pondok Ozanam which serves close to 140 families in food supplies and 40 elderly in cooked food 3 times weekly.

The next morning we had to take a domestic flight to Pontianak then drive up to Sarikan which took us 2 hours with 2 stopovers in between. Upon arrival at Lembah Rivotorto, we went about compiling more information about the area. In this district, there are 3 areas under it's ward, they are known as Rumah Ayak, Rumah Sarikan and Rumah Mangis. At this stage, we know for sure Rumah Ayak has 34 families, Sarikan has 120 families as for Rumah Mangis the head count weren't firm at the point of visit.

Visited some Dayaks (local people) and witnessed that they are in need of dire support. To reach them, we need to walk into the forest along a path. It's the main vein which leads to smaller paths either branching to the right/left and each of it leads to a family. They were all with smiles when we came by. Though life is hard, it gives them comfort that people are willing to come visit.

Thereafter, we had dinner at the the church. Compiled more details, then headed back to the city of Pontianak. We concluded that for the next visit, sanitation is the first thing we will look at follow by education and lastly skill induction programs. More will be elaborated about this 3 projects. We arrived back at Jakarta on 230511. From the airport, we went straight to Pondok Ozanam.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Project Sunter - 200511 and 230511

This program is a collaboration with HIH (Hand in Hand) and Pondok Ozanum (Church). We arrive on 200511 noon at Jakarta and depart for the church.

As AB Charity is the main sponsor for this month's food program, we had to pack the dry condiments into smaller portions. We completed this by 8pm (local time) then we checked into Cempaka Sunter (Service apartment) for the night. The next morning we had to take a domestic flight to Pontianak then drive up to Sarikan which took us 2 hours with 2 stopovers in between.

On 230511, we arrived back in Jakarta and the full project entails us to give out 140 bags of dry condiments to selected families and to deliver 40 portions of cooked food to elderly living within the area. We helped transport the food items and learned that the project is split into 3 parts. The church itself is a distribution center for half the dry food supplies. The other half are transported to an area under a bridge nearby.

The cooked food are given to elderly who live alone or have difficulty in mobility. This effort caters 3 cooked meals per week to each elderly. With some volunteers from Team SOUL, we managed to visit 8 homes and each gave a very deep impression. See the photos and you will witness the difficulties the community face on a daily basis.

Basically this is a community of rubbish collectors who savage items that are of value for recycling companies. After sorting, all the unwanted rubbish are left there to rot away. Sadly, some are staying near or on the rubbish itself. Their living quarters are actually under a bridge.

I was told there is a high tendency of the local people being too reliable on the program by selling all excess food items for cash so what we did was split the project into 2 phases. What you witness is only 1 half of the project and it will commence during Christmas in Dec 2011.

More will be elaborated when i present the accounts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are now sure that there are 3 aspects we can work on.

Sanitation - Build a toilet for every family

To enhance living conditions, it's necessary to look into this matter immediately.

A project Sanitation will kick start our efforts for the people of Rumah Ayak.

Our plan is to build 34 toilets. Designs and cost sourcing are underway as we speak. An update will be available by Aug 2011.

Education for kids - Part time studies for children

There is a classroom which we had identified for the studies to take place.

We are targeting 5 to 10 year olds for this program and up to 25 kids for the first semester.

A fund raiser will begin in Apr 2012, resource purchases will commence by June 2012. Classes starts by Jan 2013.

Skill induction Programs - Skills for teenagers

To do this, we need to construct a building then equip it with facilities.

We are targeting a space of 200m by 200m. We will only commence this if the education program succeeds.

To give continuity for the children's betterment, this facility will help to set the next step towards earning a living.

We will begin acquiring land as early as 2013 Jan. Construction commences in Jan 2014. Program starts by June 2015.

This visit was a collaboration with HIH (Hand In Hand) and Team SOUL is very thankful for their hosting.

To know more about HIH, send us an email: [email protected]

Good day to all,

AB Charity manage to send 7 volunteers to help out with July food packing with Wellness and Shan You.

Its a great success and we manage to complete it in 1hr 30mins. The fluency is getting better and better and best of all, we manage to increase the food giving program from 283 to 300 families.

It may be sad that more people are under this program, however the value of the project and with more sponsors, Shan You manage to up the numbers.

A good effort from all..... Keep it up !!

Good Day Team AB Charity,

After a total of 6 flights, spending 192 hours, visiting 150 needy families, giving books and writing materials to a school for 352 monks age from 5 to 10 years old, we can finally conclude Project Mundgod 2011.

75% of people in Mundgod, Hubli live in small houses not more than 5m by 7m. In such a small space they cramp a kitchen, sleeping area and made some makeshift sheds for storage. Everywhere we went we saw interesting green innovation which help save electricity and water. Though some houses have direct access to electricity from the government, the purpose of it is for lightings and very few have a television.

I learned the core of a corn when dried can be used to maintain a fire, manure from ox, sheep, cows and buffalo are used in different type of crops for better organic planting. Dried hay can be stored for many years when left expose in rain or sunlight if you stack correctly. A light to some homes is making a hole on the roofs. Mode of transport for some people is using an ox cart, within the monastery; every lamppost is equipped with a solar panel. No food is thrown away as they are collected and compile into feed for livestock.

Though we are there to do a little good, the small little green innovations, shows a little saving here and there can make a difference to the overall living. There is need to survive and it drives this community to extreme measures while living through such difficult conditions. Resilience is at its making when observing these live examples.

We managed to visit a school for blind that cater to 49 blind individuals ranging from age 5 to 30 years old. They can sing, study and speak in English though not fluent, however its programs are catered towards the correct direction. To get to the toilets, they had to feel the surface of the walls for orientation; also their uniforms are in very bad condition, some buttons missing, holes on the shirt, all wearing different type of shirts. We will be looking to cater some walking sticks for them and also some uniforms as well

We also visited an old folks home that cares for 119 elderly and living space is only measuring 2m by 3m, which is occupied by 2 persons. Every day there is a need to wash so many clothes but there are only 2 washing machines that can handle 6kg per load. There is also a room of 5 beds that is used to care for those who are sick. Usually when it reaches that state, it means their journey is almost coming to an end. It may seem a sad way to go, for the old folks their belief is they had already served their purpose in life and can’t wait to start the next. I see smiles when we came by and all lived by that code. We will be looking to provide 2 more washing machines in our next visit.

While we were giving out the provisions to different ethnic Indian groups, we also witness the daily struggles they face like poor sanitation, no electricity, working hard to survive. Though, the government provides raw materials like bricks and cement, the building process is upon self and the tiles for the roof are purchased through the sweat of the daily work. To earn salaries, they do farming, rubbish recycling and travelling to the cities to do hard labor. Mostly are not very well educated. I do see some children wearing school uniforms but most of them roam the streets.

Not wearing footwear is a norm in this village. Hence you will see many walking barefoot. We also understand that for some families who can’t afford a house are found living in the nearby forests. We did not distribute to them as the transportation are not able to reach these depths. To reach them, we may need to hire human labor or get them to come out and collect. I will study this plan again to see how we can reach them via a cost worthy approach.

Managed to visit many families and sent the food to their doorsteps. In some instances, the families gather at a place that resembles a community center alike ours in singapore. However the structure is very basic only. In this same space, they also run the nursery, pre-school and primary education.

We gave out a total of 280 sculptured balloons, though we had interrupted their class schedules, the teachers welcome us with open arms as we brought joy to the children. Though it’s an instant joy, being able to bring the balloons back home will remind them about this happy moment. Some classrooms are poorly equipped and do not meet the requirements of a conducive learning environment. So there is a need to do a study and understand how we can ensure all classrooms have the same amount of classroom furniture and materials.

Will be looking to launch several small initiatives in our next visit in Nov 2012. Provision giving will still be the main project and we will implement a selection process to select the ones who are most needy as there are other pressing initiatives that are equally important.

Conclusion: Mundgod is worth a few more visits before i find other more suitable ones. I was thinking of distributing in the slump areas initially, however there are safety and security issues to manage and manpower is not many hence i gave up the idea and move to a village instead. Mundgod will form a permanent slot in our curriculum of overseas projects. I will be surveying another area called Spiti also in India. I will be visiting in July 2012. I will raise funds for Spiti as well, regardless of the number of bags, i will still be going. Hope to receive your continuous support.

Yours Truly, GP.

Project in Indonesia

060911 - 090911

Location: Panti Sosial ina Grahita Belaian Kasih Pegadungan

Address: Jl. Peta Utara No.29A Pegadungan Kec. Kalideres - Jakarta Barat 11830

---------------------------------------------------

Good Day Team SOUL,

We visited an orphanage which specialize in caring for children with Down Syndrome and Autism. A total of 99 children reside here and is looked after by 22 staff.

When i came down the vehicle several children came forward to shake my hands, one tried to give me a hand massage and there after asked for some loose change. Another just look at me and smiled. One was holding a wrapper alike a lottery ticket and asked whether i was interested to purchase a ticket from him.

The conditions of these children are real as they have almost no recollection in who their parents are and only the memories of what they were made to do for a living by either a syndicate or perhaps self-imposed while trying to survive. I can't imagine if one of us were put in this condition how we would likely fare.

At first, i was wondering why they need 22 staff to run an orphanage? When we had passed the dry supplies to them, they haul all of it to a storeroom and soon, it was time for them to have their meals. This is where all 22 staff were needed to be present. We understand from their administrator that the more difficult ones need to be fed as they might accidentally throw the meal everywhere or may have difficulty using utensils.

I was very enlightened to see them wash up before meals which show that hygiene is still present in their minds. You can see the several photos taken while they were fed. Many staff helped feed the children and this is done 3 times daily. We managed to see the dormitories which they were housed in.

In one dorm, i only saw mattresses and tiles which clearly divide the space in between each mattress. Was told that the more mentally challenged are placed in this room as they will destroy everything that their hands can grab as a result it cost a lot of monies to maintain the furniture. At times, the soft board ceilings will be breached and broken into pieces. In adverse cases, they might even play with their feces.

I can't show any photos of this dorm but by relating to all, you MUST know, we are very blessed to be alive and can function as normal beings. Most will pity their plight and sympathize them. I see the human will to survive, a much challenging one for all those that reside in this shelter and those in service to their well-being.

With sponsors from AB Charity, Friends from HIH (Hand in Hand), we ordered 130 packets of cooked food and fulfill a supply list furnished by the orphanage. Receipts will be presented in another thread.

Your's truly, GP.

Good Day Team AB Charity,

En-route to Sarikan, we stop by at an orphanage named 'Bhakti Luhur' in Pontianak, INDONESIA, as we need to help deliver 2 wheelchairs for 2 very special kids. Their names are Ebet(Yellow T-shirt) and Imanuel(Black Stripe T-shirt), age 3 and 6 years old. Both suffer from a disease that causes the head to swell. There are 387 causes for this illness and their type is Aacase I Symptom. It’s a case of a swollen brain and water retention in the head. They only can consume liquid food.

Ebet had gone through 2 operations. One is to widen his mouth to allow easy consumption of food and another a nose to help breathe better. The wheel chairs will help these kids sit better and allow easier feeding for the Sisters / Caretakers as they will become too heavy to lift when they grow older. However several modifications are needed to position them properly as their bone structure is very frail. We took measurements for Imanuel first as he is able to sit better and had already sent the wheelchair to the carpenter. As for Ebet, he still needs to wait 2 – 3 years before he can use a wheel chair.

Many people would pity and sympathize these 2 kids. However, I see their existence serve 3 very important lessons.

One, reminding us that normality should not be taken for granted. If given their condition, we are not able to function humanly, enjoy the things we have, love our loved ones, travel to places we never been before.

Two, their spirit to stay alive is a good example of resilience. In the modern world, with chosen professions, we strive towards better living and being resilient is a part of everyday life.

Three, anyone in service to these 2 kids will receive important lessons on patience and loving unconditionally.

Upon completing this task, we headed to Sarikan. It’s good to see Sister Gratia again as she is a living example of resilience as well. She single handedly transform a piece of empty land to a church of awe. We wanted to get more information in how we can aid better for the poor families in this area. She gave us clear indication that a proper education center complete with living quarters is necessary and to support this purpose, she is prepared to give 2 hectares of land.

I am very encouraged by this gesture and was told that there will be 2 persons who will help with this project. They are Mr Andreas, a doctor specialize in children philosophy and Chris, a degree holder in ergonomics. I am very humbled by their presence because their specialties will serve different aspects of the children's growth but all contributing towards the same purpose. We exchanged ideas and manage to conclude in a few things. I will elaborate them in SOUL Foundation discussions.

After gathering all these good thoughts, I headed back to Jakarta to meet Miss Ari, a principle for a Montessori school. Learnt more about the Montessori teaching / learning methods, did an observation for a class and realized it can be easily applied to the education system in Sarikan. Overall, I am happy we had received so many positive news in different fronts.

Visiting Sarikan in Jan 2012 will begin formal preparations. A survey will be conducted on the land parcel, we will have the 2 hectares marked out, look into the irrigation, electricity connection, drainage, floor plans and accommodate a Montessori learning environment. The next stage to ensure all infrastructure operate with the well being of it's recipients and staff in terms of safety. It's exciting times ahead and we are just getting started.

Your's truly, GP.

Good Day Team AB Charity,

Our effort to Shan You / Wellness Community helped continue its food giving project for 300 families islandwide. We had over 20 plus volunteers and we managed to finish this food collection in almost 3 hrs. It's a milestone to be able to reach this level.

Though i had arranged everything from Brunei, i am very much encouraged by the attendance and received many positive feedbacks. Some volunteers asked are we able to widen the scope of the effort by been the ones to deliver the provisions to the needy families?

The answer is Yes.

The next step is to look into how we can incorporate delivery as part of our effort. I will discuss this matter closely with the co-ordinators and see how well / big we will support for the next one. I am very encouraged by this bold suggestion as we had always kept the effort to a manageable level.

When i am back in Singapore in Oct, will get in touch with the committee from Shan You and see how we can fit into the overall plan plus expand our scope of involvement.

Do stay tune for further updates and Kudos to all....... Smile

Your's truly, GP.
