S'porean man caught trying to enter M'sia in car boot, paid S$3,000 for help from 2 M'sian women
He served jail time in Malaysia and has returned to Singapore.

A Singaporean man tried to enter Malaysia by hiding in the boot of a car.

He was caught after the vehicle was stopped for inspection, the Malaysian authorities said in a press conference on Mar. 4, Malaysian newspaper The Star reported.

The Singaporean man, in his 50s, was found hiding in the car at around 3:30pm on Dec. 13, 2023, Johor Customs Department director Aminul Izmeer Mohd Sohaimi said.

The car was a Malaysian-registered car, and had tried to enter Malaysia through the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex.

“The car was stopped for inspection after it looked a bit heavier at the back," Aminul said, according to The Star.

He added that the man had no travel documents with him during his arrest.

Paid S$3,000 for help from two Malaysians

Malaysian authorities also detained two Malaysian females in their 20s, for their role in his attempted illegal entry.

Investigations showed that the man paid S$3,000 to the two women to bring him over into Malaysia illegally, Aminul said.

The Singaporean reportedly had some legal issues in Singapore and could not get a passport.

“The Singaporean man has since served his time in our prison and returned to his home country in the middle of February,” Aminul said.
