Material fatigue' led to bar falling from MRT viaduct segment onto Jurong traffic junction below: LTA 'Material fatigue' led to bar falling from MRT viaduct segment onto Jurong traffic junction below: LTA A bar fell from an MRT viaduct segment of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) onto the road below due to material fatigue of one pre-tensioning bar, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Stomper Malcolm shared dashcam footage of the incident, which happened at the junction of Jalan Bahar and Jurong West Avenue 2 on Oct 3 at 9.30am. The bar nearly hit the vehicles turning at the junction. In response to a Stomp query, an LTA spokesperson said: "No works were ongoing at the time of the incident and there were no injuries or damage to property." Following the incident, a safety time out was called at this worksite to review the incident. "Our engineers have checked and verified that the viaduct remains safe," added the spokesperson. "Investigations indicate that the incident was due to material fatigue of one pre-tensioning bar." Additional safety measures have been implemented to further guard against objects from falling from height at the worksite. During the safety time out, the workers were reminded of safety processes and reporting protocols. The spokesperson said: "We have also worked with the main contractor, China Railway Construction Corporation, to conduct thorough inspections of other JRL worksites to prevent reoccurrences of similar incidents."
