National head coach Peter Cklamovski has come to the defence of Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. — STR/NAJMI NOR’AZAM "Who gets the funding from the Prime Minister and support from the government? It's Tunku Ismail — not FAM. "Who raises the standards, who ensures we travel on a charter flight like professionals to prepare well for a tough game and then fly back straight to Kuala Lumpur? It's Tunku Ismail. The support he provides us to be at our best and to operate professionally… that's all because of him. "All the mess that's happening with FIFA, the administrative errors or whatever's going on there, that's FAM. That's not Tunku Ismail. I'll send a strong message to all Malaysian people — without Tunku Ismail, Malaysian football is finished. I'll leave it at that." Cklamovski said Harimau Malaya's win over Laos was dedicated to Malaysian fans amid the turmoil. "Tonight's match was for the Malaysian people. We wanted to give Malaysians hope and inspiration by the way we played football, to show them that we can achieve something special. I'm proud of the players for doing that," he said. After a scrappy first half, Arif Aiman Hanapi unlocked the game in the 54th minute, cutting inside before drilling a low effort past Laos goalkeeper Kok Lokphathip. Arif, named Man of the Match, insisted the victory was a collective effort. "Tonight's game was not easy. The Laos team also gave a good fight against us. We all gave 100 per cent to win this game," said Arif. Captain Dion Cools added a second goal in the 69th minute, and Faisal Halim sealed a 3-0 win deep into stoppage time. Despite the score, Malaysia looked short of fluency without their suspended naturalised players. However, Cklamovski praised the squad's resilience on a difficult Lao National Stadium pitch. "The pitch was not easy… it was bobbling around, but actually still better than some Malaysian Super League pitches. The players adapted well, controlled the game, and found good spaces. We'll analyse and improve, but I'm proud of their commitment to the national team," he said. Malaysia remain top of Group F in the Asian Cup qualifiers with nine points from three matches, ahead of Vietnam (six), Laos (three) and Nepal (zero). In another match, Vietnam beat Nepal 3-1 in Hanoi.
